Het is moeilijk om afscheid te nemen van Peter – Dus zeggen we tot ziens!

This week we said goodbye to Peter, an outstanding volunteer from Switzerland who put his personal life on hold and spent 3 months volunteering at the ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran Rehabilitation Village in Israel’s Negev.

During his time at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, Peter dedicated himself to the residents of House 9, investing all his time, strength, thought and heart in “his” residents and in ways to make their days more meaningful. He also paved the road for many other volunteers from Holland and Switzerland, who are looking for a meaningful and significant volunteer experience.

Peter’s parting words from the village staff were especially heartwarming. He began in Hebrew which he learned at the village:
“I have to go back home now. I will miss you all. I hope to see you again soon. ADI Negev – you are sun and light for the heart. Thank you very very much! ADI Negev is the best!”

He then continued:
“Last time I left the village, I came back to Holland and left my heart here. I missed the children of the village so much and I missed you all – the amazing staff who works with their heart and soul. You gave me so much inspiration. I know that I gave ADI Negev endless hours, but I didn’t get tired – G-d gave me the strength, you gave me the fortitude, and more than anything, the precious children of the village gave me the strength. They gave me the courage to become what I am today. You all gave me so much – Thank You!”
